Its a sad state of affairs when our own police are scared of a small group of hoods. Insurance are quite right in saying they wont pay out if houses catch fire, as its the responsibility of the state not to allow such stupidity to happen. Its a very preventable risk.

Government and police all push the worried people onto each other, trying to not get involved, terribly weak.

Same with the paramilitary flags, council wont touch them, police wont touch them. Quite pathetic really.

It's not moneysaving it's money wasting. The houses adjacent have all just been boarded up at the rate payers expense.

Loved it on the lunchtime news. Man at bonfire said, its no bigger than other years and none of the residents have complained to them.:D:D:D:D:D Bet if they did, they would find themselves moving out pretty quickly.

Much as I think the bonfire is a bad idea, it would cause a lot of problems for the police to try to tackle it (or to remove flags in the area). Fact is, both the bonfire and flags have the overt or at least tacit support of many in the area.

No point creating trouble, I suspect that local people will eventually come up with some sort of agreement to make the whole thing less of a public safety hazard (especially if a few houses go up in smoke) and 'gentrification' will probably cut down on overtly sectarian symbolism over the coming years.
  • I saw those bonfires on the news today it's an absolute disgrace that people have to put up with that type of thing and nobody does anything about it. It would be highly illegal anywhere else! WHERE ARE THE AUTHORITIES!!!!
