Beauty Return

Hi,

Personal seller that sold a beauty item - some sort of skincare. Bought something for a friend and got a free gift which was a full sized item that went on eBay.

Explained in listing that it was new and boxed but not sealed.

Buyer received item, a week later, messages and says I want to return it because it does not have expiry date on it and she thinks it's old stock. How she knows that is beyond me as this premium beauty brand does not have sell by dates on it. Also, my friend is more than happy with the item I got for her.

Anyway, how do I go about this? Do I just ask her to return and then I refund? What if she has opened the item? Also, without sounding too strange, what if she has switched it with another tube that is old?

I know the new eBay rules say all items can be returned but I did say no returns or does that not make a blind bit of difference?

Putting no returns means nothing at all, They just give a good reason to return.

Not as described etc and ebay will refund them and take the money from you. They could send you an empty box back and ebay will still refund.

Thats one of the risks of ebay and selling online.

    Seriously? Wow.

I might have to start buying some Creme De La Mer on eBay then, hehehe.

If you're a private seller you don't have to take returns if you have the official "no returns" box selected in the listing. But 100% you will eat a big fat negative feedback and defect on your account.

If you are a business seller the no returns option means nothing and the buyer can return it for any reason under the sun.

IMO just offer a return, most customers don't even return it in the end due to the hassle.

Tell them to return it for a refund. Dont mess around with partial refunds.

If your fairly new to ebay or new to selling then it may attract those that know how ebay works and that putting no refunds is useless.

Personally i think putting no refunds in the listing attracts those that know the seller cannot win if they open a case.

Putting no returns is meaningless. You do have to accept a return if its SNAD but you do not have to accept a change of mind return.

Unfortunately unscrupulous buyers will open a SNAD dispute to get around this and you end up paying return postage costs.

Best ask the buyer if she has used any of the products (but don;t tell her that it has to be returned in unopened and unused condition.) If she has used any you can try and refuse the return but can your account stand a neg and defect?

Whichever way you go, no return no refund and don;t offer a partial refund either.
