Selling old windows

Hi
I've only joined the website today and so apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong forum. I tried searching for a thread based on the question I'm about to ask but just got results about Windows - the computer operating system!
I'm having new double glazing put in in a couple of weeks and wondered if there was a market for selling the old windows. The windows we currently have are fine but they are timber framed and it's the timber which is a little worse for wear hence the investment in new upvc windows.
I had a look on eBay but I'm a bit nervous about selling them this way because of my lack of knowledge. I found a company on Google called webuyyouroldwindows but they give no contact details or information about themselves - just a form to fill in - and maybe I'm being paranoid but it's made me wary.
Should I just let the installers bin what we have or is there a way to make some money out of the windows we already have? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Michelle

They can be sold but they can't be fitted into peoples houses because they won't meet current building regulations. They can be used for sheds etc but I would think thats a very limted market. I'm sometimes asked by clients to take the sashes out of the window frames as they can be used as small coldframes for seedlings etc..
I would let the installers get rid of them otherwise you could be left with the job of disposing of them ,which may not be cheap. You could use the wood if you have a woodburner..0 -
There's a Double Glazing place just down the road from me and they have a skip outside full of windows & doors. They're worth nothing or these places would be selling them on. I called in to ask could i take some to make cold frames and they were glad to get rid of them.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Offer them on your local Freecycle or Freegle.
They will go like hot cakes !!!0 -
Same here as what Sam said. They even throw away pretty newish double glazed windows and doors. Parents have taken quite a few for garage, sheds etc. Place in Keynsham was happy to be rid of them so I doubt there would be any value in them.Solar install June 2022, Bath

If they are made after around 1975 they will be treated timber. It may not be prudent to put these in a wood burner. Otherwise a good use for them, but a lot of effort to first remove the glass.0 -
Thank you for the replies. Lots of valid points raised and so I'll leave it to the installers to skip them.
Thanks again.

I sold a dozen windows, French doors and a front door in rosewood UPVC for £150. Cheaper than me getting a skip , fitted into a summerhouseHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0

I sold one of my old windows to a local second hand/antique shop. The windows had leaded lights, and I saw similar ones on a TV programme. Got £20 for one window, and the guy was interested to know if I had any more.
The plain windows went into a skip.0 -
Second hand windows and doors are always wanted here We sold two sets. People want them for garages, sheds etc. we used some ourselves to make a glass house
We use gumtree to sell on0
