Galaxy Note...no sign of life

Hi all,

My original Galaxy Note switched itself off the other day then got stuck on the Samsung N7000 screen when booting up. I tried to reset it with Vol Up/Power On/Home then it looped on the spinning Samsung logo until I eventually took the battery out.

I'm using fully charged batteries and mains power but there appears to be no sign of life at all now.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

    Try download mode .
    Vol DOWN/Power On/Home

If that works then you can try flashing a stock rom via Odin.
See sammobile.com for stock roms .

Thanks. I tried that but no joy.

I took it to a local repairer. After 10 days they say they want me to pay £80 to replace the motherboard.

Is that a viable solution for a mobile? How do they know that is going to work?

    Many thanks

Actually, does it need to be connected to Kies with the Vol down/Power On/Home or does it make no difference if there is no power at all?

    Cheers

Changing a motherboard on a mobile is a viable repair. Whether it resolves this issue, who knows?! Is the repairer an authorised Samsung repair centre?

OK thanks for confirming the viability.

To be honest I have no idea if they are an authorised Samsung repairer - I doubt it. They had some good reviews on Which? a few years back but I have found that the off-the-cuff estimate for repair has gone up the longer they have delayed getting back to me.

They said I had 5 minutes to get back to them to authorise the repair, so I daresay the cost might go up again.

I have no idea where the new motherboard is coming from or if there is any guarantee. An authorised Samsung repairer sounds like it might be more expensive than £80 though.

    Cheers

Well, turns out they say can't fix it after trying a new motherboard.

An authorised Samsung dealer wants £160 for a new motherboard.

I've read lots of other reports of Galaxy's dying like this. Seems ridiculous for such an expensive phone.

Pondering a contract or an unlocked Note 3 replacement perhaps.

    :(
