Ethical Parking PPC

I'm after some advice!
I received a parking charge while at college, I had paid & displayed & also display a parking permit for the college. Apparently my ticket was not displayed clearly & so I received a £80 charge. I appealed & refused to pay following some guidelines online. They rejected my appeal & I again refused to pay as I had not breached any contracts. I heard nothing back from them & then received a debt recovery letter Some time later, they are now demanding £160 & threatening county court judgements! I'm a 33 year old mother of 2 & cannot believe how unethical these private parking companies can be! I have attended college for the last year once a week on a Monday & always paid the 50p charge to park on the college grounds for the day.

Any advice greatly appreciated
Chevonne

Please read NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #4 which gives all the information you need to know about debt collectors. We can only really help with private parking charges to the point of appeals, where we have huge success in getting parking charges rescinded.

The main advice now is to ignore debt collectors. The fact that this is an alleged debt relating to a parking charge doesn't necessarily make this the most appropriate forum to approach. You'd be getting the same debt collector letters for an unpaid plumber's invoice, or electrician, or milkman. But those are likely to relate to real invoices for services provided. What you've had is a speculative invoice (dressing up a penalty).

Only take notice, from here on in, of a Letter Before Action or MCOL from the PPC or the landowner. Please, no need to come back when you get the next follow up from the debt collector - we've seen them all a zillion times (maybe even more than that!) and the advice remains the same - IGNORE.

The sticky above tells you all.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
