Why does my wireless signal go up and down?

sometimes its very good then the next minute its very low....the pc is only in the next room,no thick walls or anything.I`m using one of the talk talk routers with aol.

    can be anything, microwave, tv sender, wireless burglar alarm....yours or even next doors

    go into the admin panel of the router and there will be a bit about channel selection, its normally set to automatic. Change this to manual and try different channels numbers. I've had to do that

  • Mine does the very same thing... It can be as simple as environmental conditions - I find if it's raining my signal is worse...

    as Browntoa said, swapping channels can make a difference...

    Yes, other 2.4Ghz devices can interfere, another is cordless phones. Do any of your neighbours have wireless (look at the software supplied with your wireless card or the windows browser)? Although windows can't, some 3rd party wireless card software will tell you what channel other networks are working on, or you can use 3rd part software such as http://www.netstumbler.com. Setting the channel will adjust the frequency, hopefully enough to stop the interference. Also ensure the antennas are parallel to each other as this will ensure optimal signal strength too.
