Hand Luggage

Good morning. I hope this isn't a silly question but it's puzzling me!

Do we still have to use see-through plastic bags for hand-luggage nowadays when flying? We are due to fly next week and booked online and were not advised regarding this. If we do need them, can you tell me if these are special bags and where I might get them from or whether any see-through bag will do?

Sorry if it's obvious!

Many thanks.

Yes you do still have to useclear plastic bags, we always use Mr T's ziplock ones and nobody at the airport has ever questioned it and at least you can re-use the same oone each time you fly. They will give you a bag at the airport if you haven't got one, but they're not very big and everything tends to fall out of them

I think the clear plastic bag is just for liquids?

I.e. if I put them in my case to check in I don't need a clear plastic bag?

The clear plastic bag is just for hand luggage and each bottle/jar/tube can be no more than 100ml

The clear plastic bag is just for liquids that must be less than 100ml. You can still take an flight bag (or a woman's handbag) for such things as books and anything else you might need on the flight.

Take your own ziploc bag if you can. I heard that at Luton they are charging for the bags but at the other airports they give them out free as you go through security.

Just to clarify. You can still only take one piece of hand baggage from the UK. If you want to carry any liquids or gels in your hand baggage it must be carried in a single clear re-sealable plastic bag such as a ziplok. All the gels and liquids you take must fit in the one bag which must not exceed 20 cm x 20 cm (approx 8" x 8"). This must then fit in your one piece of hand baggage (i.e. it's not as well as). Any container with gels or liquids must be of no greater capacity than 100 ml. That means that a 200 ml container with half the contents out WILL NOT meet the requirements. The actual container must be 100 ml or less. It does not have to be sealed or unused but must be les than 100 ml total capacity. Most womens' make up will fall within the rules for liquids and gels. Be careful with perfumes, etc as the containers will often be greater than 100 ml in size. If you do not observe the rules you will have to either throw the items away or try and get them in your checked baggage (not much chance of retrieving it though once checked)

You can carry as much liquid and gel items in your checked baggage (weight and restriction permitting) as you want.

Once you are through security you can then buy as much liquid and gels as you want in duty free, etc.

See the BAA website for fuller information.

Yes, Luton have done a deal with a vending machine company. £1 for 3 Ziplok bags!! You can get 60 in the £ shop for the same price. Most other airports still provide them free if you do not take your own. But it's people who do not get themselves organised and wait to get them at the security check that cause a lot of the delays. So it's more considerate to get organised before going to the airport.
  • Thats really cleared it up for me - many thanks.
