I agree with this. OP you sound completely weary and at the end of your tether - are you taking proper care of yourself ? Please don't let this business make you ill.

You know what, beating yourself up will change nothing... Yes it was a stupid thing to do, but people do worse. You are now doing your best to put it right so you can move on. Look after yourself x

Thank you and well it's added to the list of things we or I have ha to deal with since starting my job. Partner had two knee ops in December and then was in and out of hospital then big operation earlier in the year which meant time off to look after Girls and then when partner was home her too. Getting attacked at infant school after have a few weeks of being verbally attacked. To the do the right thing and get polic involved but other family said it was us even though this mum and husband brought 3 other its with them and I was holding my youngest. But thanks to people and friends being to scared to write a statement they get away with it. Then for partner to have to go in and out of hospital a fair bit due to complications it all added up to me to take care of everything and to make sure bills were paid etc as well as take time off work. So it's been hard and I m off myself with stress and depression this just topped it off but am enjoying the time off and trying to get back to normal and try and get things sorted as best as I can all want is quiet life for me and my family.

However most authorities will prosecute if someone fails to attend an interview, so may end up with a criminal record if you follow this barrack room lawyer, who clearly has no idea.

Authorities can and do prosecute for fraud, they just have no powers of arrest to force an interview, unlike the police. That being said though, they can ask the police to arrest someone if they want to so that they can interview them.

If the police have got time to waste arresting people who send a cheque to pay off a few hundred quid of a benefits over payment because the authority wants to make some kind of meal out of it because they have nothing better to do, then the police have no reason to continually moan that they have no resources to catch rapists, murderers and !!!!!! downloaders.

Just pay the authority their piffling few hundred and damn their impudence.

I have sat in court and watched people get brought up from custody having been picked up on warrant because they ignored the letters & then didn't attend court. The amount is irrelevant - if an offence has been committed then the authority have a right to take action.
The o/p is dealing with his mistake and this should prevent it escalating to that.
The whole "how dare you" stance will get people's backs up...
