Thursday 9th July - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Good morning DFW-Devotees,

Thanks Ziggy. Well I've been very busy this week at work so I've done hee-haw at home as I've been too tired. I did laugh yesterday when a colleague complimented me on my hair and asked if my 'new' hairdo was expensive, all I'd done was blow dried it. In my usual post I just wash-and-go; but with this temporary fancy-pants post I've been running a comb through it too! :rotfl:

Now I have three days off to catch up:

    Nillionaire Week 8:

:grinheart Going to local beach. Will probably take our barbecue with us and food from home so no spend there.
    Will take the kites too.

:grinheart Run free AVG virus software on machines at home as I have malware after accidentally clicking on a dodgy link.

:grinheart Run free utilities (Disk Cleanup and Defragment) on my machine.

:grinheart Checked online banking. No surprises, phew.

:grinheart Look at Tickety Split for train tickets. (Link)

:grinheart Talk to OH about MOT'ing the car. Someone please make the MOT go away; I dread it! :(

:grinheart Look again at Married Persons' Tax Allowance. I was sure we weren't eligible but having read Foxgloves' post I'm now not so sure.

:grinheart Download payslip and create a fuss if my wages are incorrect.

:grinheart Decided against a theatre trip next week. There are no cheap seats available.

    :grinheart Do Royal Mail Surveys.

    :grinheart Check broadband data usage.

:grinheart Check TopCashback, Quidco and Tesco Clubcard balances.

    Freebies:

:grinheart If you have bought CDs or vinyl from Amazon at any time since 1999 you can download the MP3 versions for free. (Link)

    :grinheart Free Comfort sample. (Link)

    Offers:

:grinheart £1 Boots meal deal for O2 customers via their App. (Link)

:grinheart Free 50 Photobox prints. You pay postage. (Link)

:grinheart Free seeds with Covent Garden Soup. (Link)

:grinheart Free cinema ticket with a £4 bag of sweeties. (Link)

Good luck with your Devotions, Devotees.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Wow early DFW birds this morning. Hello everyone :)

Enjoyyourshoes - good luck with your 2nd interview. It was Twiggy who also had a 2nd yesterday. Regarding your kids savings accounts what we're you looking for exactly? I have a few accounts for my son and one has performed head and shoulders above the rest.

Ally - how nice to get compliments from your colleague.

Foxgloves -thank you for taking the time to explain that for me.

Off to work myself soon. First morning in forever that I've been awake before my son so it was lovely to have him come in for cuddles with us instead of already being downstairs watching cartoons :)

Just booked him on a free hour long workshop called Small Furries at Pets at Home in a couple of weeks. If you are a member of their club you can go to all these things for free. Worth registering to those with kids into pets?

Just waiting for my new household energy bill to be released. I really hope we've made progress again against the arrears. Desperate to get the DD down from £105 a month.

I was really surprised to read on here that people on debt management plans are recommended to budget around £30 a month for clothing. I doubt I spend that on us every 3 months!

Dawn - thanks for your comment last night too. I'm glad you found the retail thing interesting. Love hearing about your DGD days as well.

    Bye for now

    Hi All

Well, Wales Agri minister has managed to wreck the businesses of over 1000 welsh family farms. Cleverly announcing her decision night before budget day has distracted the reporters from any notice of the complex announcement.

I am watching this and wondering how many suicides will follow, how many "accidents" statistics will increase and I am totally overcome with sadness for the families affected. Terribly sad.

The farms on top of snowdon and visited by tourists have been protected and the grunt working farmers doing the invisible farming with sheds of cattle and poor returns on larger turnovers have been totally written off. Please note Wales is shut for beef and dairy farming in favour of smallholders and extensive hill farms.Time to consider other options, 70% of our EU support gone, milk price now half the cost of production. The sales of ride on mowers and garden tractors will soar and the sales of tractors will collapse as a result of this decision. Any police man thinking of retiring to a smallholding in Wales, do it now, the Welsh government is funding you.

    Rant over.

    Morning All,

Another £100 paid off this morning, so that puts it down to £650. Beginning to see the end now. Will make my list and update signature later whilst in work. May have a little more to pay off once a small cheque clears as well xx

Hi I have 3 Halifax RS for kids at 6%

Considering the option of S&S (fidelity) ISA instead when these mature. Long term (10-15 years) strategy not 10-15 annual RS strategy.

    Any suggestions welcome

    Hi all

Maria - really sorry to hear from you about the Welsh farmers - we live not too far from the Welsh border, and not heard this until you mentioned it. My granddad farmed in Wales but things have changed a lot since those days, and not for the better.

I've just hung out a large load of washing - I was tempted to get it done yesterday, but waited until I had a full load. Glad I did now, as it's a much better day today.

Later, I'm going to a PYO for strawberries and raspberries, and then carry on to a town for a supermarket shop. Mr T sent me vouchers yesterday, the 1st one for £6 off a £40 shop. Now I have a problem! Do I stick to my usual habit of an al** shop first, followed by a quick visit to Mr T to pick up things not stocked in al**, or do I buy everything in Mr T to get my £6 off? I don't usually spend £40 (we don't eat meat, which keeps the bills down) so I feel I am being blackmailed into spending more. Actually, I think I've just answered my own question and will stick to my usual routine. I'd like to know what anyone else thinks though.

I'll take a picnic lunch as we will probably be away several hours.

Hope everyone else has the sunny morning that we have here.
