Car is Peugeot 406,
Saloon car, Petrol
Year 2000
Engine Size (CC): 1761

When turning the rotation switch for the hot air, or cold air button, NO motor /blow air noise is detected.

Previously for a few months month, this was happening.
No motor/blow air noise was comming, but when the key was still in the ignition, and it was gently shaken up /down , and left right (the key seems a bit loose in the ignition hole),

when it was slightly shaken, while the car was on and being driven)

then the air/blow air started to work, and the noise of the air came.

So basically, when the car was being driven, and no air was comming the key was slightly shaken, gently in the ignition and it did 'something' to start the motor , making the air noise, and starting the heat, to warm up the car (like normal)

Now though, that doesn't happen atal, it doesn't work atal completely!.

Now this happens
The heater fan doesn't make any noise, (on both cold and hot air) no noise of the fan/motor comes.

but previously fiddling with the key, up/down left right slightly, generated the motor to work.

Does this indicate a possibly lose wire somewhere?

howcome the key in the ignition feels a bit lose? or is this common?

What are your thoughts on what it sounds like ?

and What tests can I do, to check and confirm that it is the heater/ or lose wiring ??

I have been heard that this is due to a dodgy ignition switch.

Where are the best places do get a replacement ignition switch for the Peugeot 406 ?

and is it Just the part with the wires/connectors?

or I need to most probably by that AND ALSO the ignition barrel that the key goes into too ??

Its common to feel loose when its worn out.

Age and mileage is one cause. A heavy bunch of keys or similar is another issue.

best place depends on how much you want to spend and if your doing the job yourself.
Main dealers, decent local garage, scrap yards, mobile mechanics etc etc etc..

I've seen this a few times when people have huge bunches of keys handing from the ignition.

The only cure is to replace the ignition lock. An hour or so of garage time. Easier if the car doesn't have airbags.

The 406 is one of the cars, that as you have identified, have a problem with the ignition switch (no, I don't know why some manufacturers saved fractions of pennies on such a necessary, but already well designed component). Bear in mind the fault is with the electrical switch, not the barrel, if you change both you will need a complete key set as the old key wont be recognised by the new switch/barrel.
If your handy with the spanners, you can swap out the electrical switch bit itself in half an hour with a better one from a scrappy. No doubt if you go to Peugeot, they will want to change the lot and make for an uneconomical repair on a 15 year old car.

As you were advised in April when you posted the exact same question.

The ignition is worn and needs replacing.

BTW Don't you usually use your Meganjones alias when posting on the motoring board, or had you forgotten?:D

It doesn't have to be whole lock.

On my Golf I've just replaced the ignition switch alone. Approx an hour's work and part was £40 for genuine item from VW. Cheap Ebay copy would have only been £10 or so.
