Vinyl laid wrong, in my opinion

Hi, I have a potential issue with a tile effect (sheet) vinyl that I have had fitted in my kitchen. Needs a long post to explain it if you have the time to read it.
I mentioned to the fitter that it looked odd as he rolled it out, but as I've never had a tile effect vinyl before I assumed it was my eyes playing tricks.
Once fitted, it looked 'wrong' - and then I discovered why. The tiles have 2 lighter and 2 darker edges, and the dark edges face the windows (on 2 sides of the kitchen). This created an illusion of 'raised' grout lines, and I pointed this out to the fitter, who claimed he couldn't see it.
An offcut on the floor immediately showed the correct way to lay it was the opposite way round, the tiles looked to be 3D with proper grout lines.
I told the manager of the store immediately and he is coming to see it himself in a couple of days time. He says the manufacturer hasn't said it is directional, but it obviously (to me, my wife and friends we asked) is, and it's laid wrong.
Where do I go if he says he can't see it?
Thanks for any help you might offer as to what rights might need to be quoted; it's not faulty, but the fitting is and they say they are not aware of any manufacturer's instructions.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Perhaps you should be looking for any manufacturer's instructions.0 -
I looked on the manufacturer's website, and there is no mention anywhere that I can find (and I spent a long time looking) that would suggest their patterned vinyl has a right or wrong way to lay it.
I broadened my search to other vinyl manufacturers and there's no mention of it anywhere.
I would have thought that fitters would know about this sort of thing but ours didn't (or claimed not to, he's probably thinking he might have to pay if he's done it wrong).
I will call in our local Carpetright and see if they know anything about it, it's not from them but the same rules apply for any vinyl, I would have thought.
If the manager's coming to see me I don't need pictures. Unless you suggest posting them here, which won't work as I have tried looking at photographs and the illusion doesn't work.0
