Settled debt appearing on credit file

Hi All,

I'd be grateful for any help anyone could give.
I took a small loan out through the now defunct minicredit back in august last year. I had grounds to complain about them to the financial ombudsman and eventually reached an agreement with them for a full and final settlement of £250, which i paid in full in december 2014.

I have today noticed on my credit file, that a default has been entered for june for £567 by the debt collection agency OPOS. I have had no contact with them since I made the payment in December.
I have called them and they say that since i did not pay the full amount a default must go onto my credit file - this is the full balance including charges and late payment fees and various charges. I had an agreement with the company of £250 in full and final settlement.
Can they do this?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like a default should be there, but it should be earlier than this June. When did you originally default on the loan?
  • Thanks for the reply -

The loan was taken out due back in November 2013.
I then had approx a year of arguing with them via the ombundsman and eventually I accepted the companies offer to repay the capital in full.
Should i get a default on record even though I accepted and paid their offer?

Was the default purely a result of the dispute? i.e. if the issue causing the dispute had not happened, then you would have paid the loan back on time with no problems?

Then you may have a case to complain again regards the unfair default, and go back to the ombudsman/ICO again if they refuse to amend or remove it.
