Hot Water Issue - pump seized?

Right, bit of background first - I've moved into a house. Proper adult and all that. Not a flat with a landlord but a 3 bedroomed house. I am faced with the complexity of hot water/heating system to maintain.
Sure enough within a fortnight I've found a problem. lack of hot water, boiler overheating according to it's orange warning light. I think (he says with no confidence whatsoever) I know the root cause. A Grundfos 15-60 pump (I think). This thing is red hot to the touch. I assume this is what is overheating. Am I right in thinking that a gentleish tap with a hammer is often prescribed here to free up the pump?
Thanks for any advice. Any education is welcomed and appreciated .... and definitely required.

A whack with a hammer normally helps. However, if its starting to stick, a replacement maybe necessary. They are around £115 from a plumbers merchant and about an hours labour to fit, orividing you have isolation valves either side.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Some pumps you can bleed like a rad if an airlock jams. They're quite sturdy so a not too hard whack might dislodge or unstick it.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

The pump will be hot anyway if it has been operating normally for some time. You should be able to feel it vibrating a little if it is running. If it appears to be stuck..turn power off, place old towel under pump. If it has a big chrome screw in the middle of the motor head, slowly undo the screw. Be prepared for a trickle of water of maybe more if its in a bad way !
Once big screw is removed, fish into the hole with a small flat bladed screw driver until you locate the driver in the slot of the end of the rotor shaft. Twiddle it to unjam it or indeed to check if its rotating. If it rotates, fine.Put big chrome screw back in place.,dont over tighten..power on,fingers crossed..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
