lappy help

my little brother just got a laptop and im trying to connect it to make it access our wireless home internet.

we have two computers and a laptop running on the wireless at the mo. when i connected the others i simply switched on wireless in the laptop/pc selected the right network from the list and entered the wep key.

ion my bros laptop it says that it is connected to the network but can not get connected to the internet?

i ran the IE diagnostic which said the problem was to do with firewalls. as far as i know it only has the default windows firewall and i even turned that off. same problem.

any ideas for finding if there are other firewalls and if this is not the real problem what might be up?

  • Do you know if DHCP is enabled on your access point ?
It could be the default gateway on your new laptops isn't configured or is incorrect. Are the other machines set with static (manual) IP addresses ?
Do you receive a reply if you open up a command prompt (start, run, cmd) and type 'ping www.bbc.co.uk' ?
  • dunno about how there configured (bit of a noob soz)

do recive a reply in the cmd tho

  • If you receive a reply then your IP address info is all configured correctly.
Fire up internet explorer and go into Tools | Internet options, then click the Connections tab.
Click on the Lan Settings button at the bottom and make sure nothing in that Window is ticked, then ok back out of it and reopen IE. Then try again.
  • thanks a bunch. that worked a treat
