Driver has died, only just seen correspondence

Hi there,

A bit of a unique scenario and could really use some advise.
The driver overstayed their welcome a few months ago and received a windscreen parking ticket issued by Naffier. The car they was driving was owned by my dad, the driver was a second driver using the car at the time.
At the time they received the ticket, the car park was not full as the weather was terrible and as such, the landlord did not incur a loss. They also looked online and were told not to think twice about it, so they didn't - they stupidly put the fine notice in their purse and had forgotten about it.
Due to my dads passing and two other family members since also, I have just caught up on all his correspondence and realise that Naffier had been writing to him and last week a note from a debt collector also came through addressed to him.
The driver doesn't know whether to get in touch with the company to inform them of this, continue to ignore or what really..
The driver has never received (indirectly) a fine before and doesn't understand the 'language'. Any wisdom would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks

Napier don't know who was driving. They have written to your dad. Mark them deceased and return to sender.

suelizab "Your Dad died, but you the driver did not ." what ! ......

what was that all about ?

Gwada_abeille first of all please accept my condolences on your recent losses ,

New members to the forum would normally just be told to read the newbie thread ......... and then ask more questions .

    however ...

This is a first for me, (I am newish to the forum) and I have several thoughts on how you should proceed...... However I have no wish to cause you any more grief than you have all ready suffered (with advice that may or may not be the best)

.... so at this point the only advice that I wish to give is under no circumstance should you contact the PPC (Na##er) or the debt collectors until some of the more learned forum members give their advice.

Condolences on your loss, Napier are attempting to invoke keeper liability they have contacted the registered keeper to either pay or name a driver.

As the keeper has passed away the person dealing with the estate should simply write and explain the person has passed away.

You don't actually have to do anything, but knowing personally how upsetting it can be receiving letters addressed to deceased relatives can be, I would nip it in the bud and inform both Napier the the debt collectors.

Oh and ignore post #2 !

    Condolences on your loss.

Naffier read this forum and now know details about one of their cases that it would be better they didn't know. Any contact the OP or the deceased's executor now makes with them will assist them in identifying the driver.

It's no good thinking that Naffier will be sympathetic in the circumstances. They are vicious scum of the lowest order (yes, The Deep, they are: posh scum, but scum all the same). They will pursue for the money regardless.

My suggestion is to ignore them completely. Let them sue a dead person. Theoretically they can hold the deceased's estate liable, but so what? Let them get a CCJ against a dead person, he will not care and the Daily Mail will have a field day with it.

my condolences on your loss or losses too , its a sad time and you could do without this

the advice above is good and should be followed

you should also edit post #1 and make THE DRIVER the reference to what anybody has done or not done , no "me , myself or I"

also change the word to naffier or some other redacted name like above, we dont need all of it, and a word to the wise, dont put too much info down on public forums like this one, walls have ears and you dont know who may be reading it

as mentioned above , IGNORE them now due to the fact they may have screenshots of this thread (as evidence)- hard I know !

    sorry for your loss

More annoyed about the cold hearted response you initially received on here. You may respond back to them and leave it at that. I hope you find warmer responses from everyone else on here.

Gwada_abeille, first of all may I also pass on my condolences for the loss of you father and other family members. May your sadness now one day turn to happy memories.

There is a lot to do when a close relative dies and dealing with these scammers is the last thing you want.

For the time being, ignore the parking company and debt collectors until you have dealt with the more important aspects of your loss. At some point, if you haven't already done so, you will need to inform the DVLA of your father's passing and returned his driving licence to them. Again, if you haven't already done so, you need to deal with the registration document as well.
You may want to 'phone DVLA for advice on how to do this (they may even have a bereavement department) and it will also depend on what you are going to do with the car. Transferring ownership to yourself or another family member may be one of the easiest options.
Please note that when a car is sold or ownership is transferred to another person, any remaining car tax is immediately rescinded and the vehicle must be re-taxed by the new owner from the beginning of the month in which it was sold.

When you eventually get round to this ticket, a simple letter to the parking company saying the keeper has passed away and a copy of his death certificate should suffice (but you never know with scammers.) After that you will have discharged your duty and can then go into ignore mode.

I really hope you get this sorted out without it causing any more distress to you or your family.

Please come back to this thread with updates when you feel you are able.
