Please help someone who hasn't got a clue!

Hi, I'm basically wondering whether it is worth me looking down the child care tax credit route.

I am a supply teacher. Some months I work not far from full time, some months only a few days. My husband is self employed, but has regular work. His income is around £16,000 pa roughly. My income for 2014-2015 was around £6,000. During the past 3 months, I have earnt around £3,500 ish after tax/ni etc.

To make things a little more confusing, as well as supply, I am currently on a 0.2 contract, which will change to a 0.8 contract in September, but only for 2 months. Then I'm back to just supply.

Does anyone have a much better understanding than me about how things work, and whether we are in a position to get help with childcare. Despite whether or not I am working, my son attends nursery 2 days a week.

Thank you.
