Cheapest card for online purchases in euros

Hi does anyone know which debit/credit card provider charges the lowest fees (of any sort, commission or flat rate fee) for ordering online in euros?

Thanks for the reply but I was meaning making an online purchase from a website where payment is converted in euros, rather than taking out travel money or cash abroad

The only issue is how the card is charged. CCs apply charges on the basis of the type of transaction (eg purchase or cash/cashlike) and whether the transaction is billed in a foreign currency.

Whether you purchase in Euros from a website, or travel to France and buy something from a shop, it doesn't matter - the cost issues are the same. Most cards will charge around 3% on the exchange rate. (No other charges.) A few don't - Halifax Clarity being an obvious example. That link gives more information.

Be aware of "Dynamic Currency Conversion" (DCC) - search for an explantion. Also be careful of Paypal. Sometimes Paypal will want to convert at inferior rate before billing your card. This can be avoided, but is tricky.

The article was on spending/purchases abroad as well, not about cash only.
