HMRC rough estimate... help please

Hi all, I'm a newbie and just wanted alittle bit of advice please?

I have been claiming WTC and CTC (2 kids both over 1yr old) as an individual for the last year but have had to stop this claim as my fiance has moved in, When I called them up I asked for a rough figure we would be looking at as a couple and they said £81 p/w! I have used the HMRC calculator and it comes out about £450pa. I gave approx earnings of £25k pa between us both (I work 16hrs p/w him 38hrs p/w)

Just wondered if anyone else was in a similar situation and which figure is looking more realistic! Obviously theres a BIG difference!

Thanks in advance!

  • The HMRC calculator is not very accurate as it gives the figures based on if you applied today and calculates from today till april 6 have you checked on www.entitledto.com your results may be different

Somehow £81 per week doesn't sound right. I'm a single parent with 2 children (well over 1) earning £17,000 gross and receive £80 per month in tax credits. However, I don't have childcare costs - if you're claiming the childcare element, that could be what's raising the amount to which you're eligible.

  • I have just tried the entitled to calculator for you with the details provided and it has given me £81.00 per month.

I think that £81.00 per week sounded a bit much but its best to get this checked. At present I have household earnings of 17,500 and receive less than this.

  • Thanks all. I did do the entiledto one as well and it gave roughly the same amount. Perhaps he did mean monthly... or he got his decimal point in the wrong place!! hehehe

Got my application form today so will send it off and see what happens!
