Can't sign into live.co.uk

Some years ago I created an email address ryco@live.co.uk I used it for a year or so for a specific project so I'm 100% sure that's the right address. But I can't sign into it now and when I click "Forgot my password" and fill in the next screen it tells me that account does not exist.
Assuming that was a bug I tried to recreate that email addtress, hoping that would prompt something but live.co.uk does not seem to be an option anymore. I can have @outlook.com or @hotmail.com. I have tried signing into ryco@ both of those but they are clearly not mine as there are security questions (in one case in Hungarian - I think!)
I have a vague notion that Microsoft changed live.co.uk and live.com to @something else but I'm not sure. If they did, what would have happened to my email address?
I can't even ask a question on a Microsoft forum, since everything I do wants me to sign in and I'm going round in circles. So I'm stuck.
Any ideas how to progress?
Thanks,

I suspect the account was deleted totally after a year (or so) of total inactivity on it.
Edit: Gmail do the same on inactive accounts - delete them
All the stuff on them vanishes at that point - gone for ever.
I recall the ability to create new .co.uk address vaiants was removed from "live" some years ago0 -
Thanks. If that's the case then fine, there wasn't really anything I wanted on there. I'm using Google Apps at work and I'ms typing up some guidance on how to share documents with non gMail addresses. So I was just hoping to use my old email address as a guinea pig so I could take copious screenshots of the process.
Never mind, I'll just have to start over with a new email address.0
