Bandwith reduced?

Don't know if anyone can help with this, but I've recently changed ISP.
When I try to listen to radio stations online, the webstreams are buffering all over the place most times, even low quality streams,in spite of my connection speed changing from 512kb to 1 mb.
Some say that talk talk restrict your usage if they think you are downloading ,so by listening to a webstream, could they put a throttle on the amount of data, making the stream buffer?

I may not be right here....we will see :)

I've heard that some ISP's are now moving all the user's that 'abuse' the line onto the same server so that they only affect each other.
But you should run a speed test to see what speed your line is getting, try this one:

    http://adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp
your speed should be: 1024/256 Kbps (Download/Upload), if this is your package http://adslguide.org/isps/prodinfo.asp?id=1180

Im positive that if your speed results are ok, then they are't capping you, because they can't and wouldnt specifically cap streaming data as its all the same to it.

See what your results are first.

Yes, some ISP are limiting the bandwith for those that use the computer for P2P (file sharing), etc (ie, not specifically for viewing webpages) and TalkTalk is one of them. They can do this because when you view things on the net you use a specific port 80 (or 8080) and most (if not all) P2P type programmes use ports in excess of 6000 (can vary though).

I'm guessing the speedtest would give the results as if using port 80 (normal webpage viewing) and therefore it is possible for these results to be normal as it doesn't do a speedtest on any other specific port.

You would be best reading the t&c of your ISP and see if they mention anything about limiting bandwidth depending on usage, etc.

I pay premium price for adsl, the reason because the cheap ones limit you in some way, you get what you paid for. I rely so much on my connection not bein restricted, that to me its worth the extra. Some companies throttle ports, others have managed plateform that restrict certain types of traffic, as said p2p is one reason, you can chnage ports for some applications however some isp's still restrict in other ways.

No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you

Not far out on the test,921kb/241kb download/upload,which,while not brilliant should'nt be causing big problems listening to webstreams. Some I've tried are only streaming at 32kbs.However,I tried them at 5am this morning when I got up for work and they were fine then.So it may be internet traffic, tonight at 7pm the streams are jumping.
Thanks all for your help so far.
