    what about going for a prepaid option that you could manage? you be the main account holder and have him as an additional cardholder... that way you can control what is loaded and spent on it?

    I suspect the old write down everything you spend for 2-4 weeks might be illuminating here. Providing he's interested in changing and won't hide things from you/himself.

    This method helped me work out why I was always broke - about £700 pa on magazines/newspapers and the same on coffees/snacks to/from work.
