Argos defective vacuum cleaner

Options
Hello, on the 12\05\15 i purchased a VAX vacuum cleaner from my local Argos store.

I set about cleaning yesterday to find that the brush roller had seized up, the drive belt was starting to melt, there was no suction whatsoever & it made a loud screeching noise when switched on.

I took it to the Argos store today with the intention of obtaining a refund, or credit note, as i had decided to buy a more expensive model.

I was told i must contact the manufacturer & that they would not refund......basically they did not want to know & the person i spoke to was arrogant & had a nasty habit of talking over my words.

Can anyone give advice on how to proceed?

Thank you.

After this long it is most likely you will have been deemed to have accepted the goods therefore you can request one remedy over another but the retailer can refuse if its disproportionately costly in comparison to another remedy. At this stage, its usually a repair job.

While they are technically wrong to tell you to contact the manufacturer (within 6 months, faults are presumed to be inherent and its for the retailer to prove otherwise), all argos will do is send it to the manufacturer on your behalf. So it may be quicker to go to manufacturer direct - providing they collect/return it free of charge.

No harm in trying another store, some will give you a refund with little quibble.

I wouldn't buy a Vax again - I kept going round in circles with their support team after my steam cleaner developed a fault. Kept getting told do X then call back and we will arranged a replacement to be sent out, called back got told to do X and so on.

In the end took it back to Currys. Currys took it in and Vax sent out a replacement to the store - this would have been fine accept when I came to collect they had sent an inferior model. Initially I was fobbed off by Currys with the case of tough luck but eventually they agreed to swap from store stock. I would return to Argos and ask them to deal with Vax it will he less hassle.

was told exactly the same thing , contacted vax and they were brilliant- explain problem they will offer replacement-print out return form or be sent one in post, stick your vaccums model number sticker on it,post off and receive new vaccum within a week.

Build quality isnt great on vax machines but as soon as your machine arrives activate the 2year warranty,i once went through 3 machines in a year all with same fault all under warranty- all replaced no quibble

Thank you all for the replies, much appreciated.

I sent the form that Vax emailed me back to vax via recorded delivery on Thursday.....and today (saturday) a courier delivered a brand new cleaner which is an uprated & more expensive model.

A big thumbs up to vax for the excellent customer service.
