move ncd from policyholder to named driver

Hi I currently have3 years ncd on a policy on a cat that I own. My girlfriend has passed her test and she will be driving the car more than I will so come November when my insurance lapses I will make her policyholder and me a named driver nothing about the car or registered keeper will change. Can I use my ncd or will they not be valid as I am only a named driver.

You will not normally be able to use your NCD as a ND, some will in exceptional circumstances such as death of spouse or spouse no longer being able to driver etc

You could speak to the insurer in question and see about having the ND marked as the main driver and retaining yourself as the policyholder.

Ultimately though, ask the question. There are no industry rules on NCD and you will occasionally get people willing to bend the normal practices to win business etc.

Most insurers will let you continue to insure the car and have her as the main driver.


That way you get the full value of your NCD.

LV seemed to be quite relaxed about it. Indeed, I think I've accidentally moved my wife's 9 years NCD over to me!
