Consumer Rights - GWR strikes

Options
Morning all,
We're due to fly into UK on Thursday night, where we have late trains to Bristol (for accommodation) and 2 return journeys to Cardiff (for the Ashes) already booked. The RMT/first great western strikes will significantly hinder our plans and makes the travel either extremely unpleasant or means realistically, we'll have to hire a car (checked bus services for all trips, not realistic for our timescales).
First GWR state that a full refund is on offer, for me this isn't good enough given the amount of disruption it causes us over the full 3 days.
My question; is there any further action I can take to receive compensation, either from FirstGWR or RMT (for calling/sanctioning the strikes)?
Due to the nature of required travel, i would need to book the hire car now, so would expect also compensation if the strikes get cancelled.
Any thoughts/advice?

You know ahead of time and can make plans, so there is no grounds for compensation, they are offering a full refund.

Had you had to endure the 'unpleasant' journey then you would have a case, but given you aren't a full refund is all you're due.

If you find a way let me know! It would be great to get some form of compensation for disruptions to my daily commute.

Unfortunately this will never happen, for the same reason they won't reimburse you for consequential losses, for example having a late train and making you miss your flight.

Thought this might be the case, though just knowing about it in advance doesn't mean there isn't a massive inconvenience/cost associated with changing of plans.

It is highly frustrating as the whole point of taking the train was to save me from all that driving!!! And it was considerably cheaper.

Hope RMT realise that they aren't making themselves any friends (for completeness and impartiality, I also appreciate that FGWR aren't adequately allaying staff fears of redundancies too!)

They probably don't care - however their membership have the very real prospect of losing their jobs in the future so are rightfully exercising their right to protest against job losses. Do you want a train to be safe when it runs?

Also read what services they are running https://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/strike or bag a refund and get the coach.
