Hi DNM ..
I work in medical research as my main job but my dad has car boot sales throughout the country so i'm helping him out with the local one by managing it for him on a Sunday and Thursday (my days off), I also have the burger van at the car boot so I need to stock it and make sure everything is ready for the staff to work it .. so yep pretty busy
I have two 12 year old boys who I am trying (sometimes winning) to instil a good money/work ethos into .. there dad was a bit of a big spender and so when we divorced I lost his big wages but got some of the big dedt ... so plugging away at it now

Hello,
I've been absent due to a shocking bout of flu. I'm still not properly better yet, but at least I'm eating food again & am managing at least a welcome 3 or 4 hours sleep a night. I didn't bother posting because I felt too awful to be farting about with laptops, but also because if I had posted, my daily lists would have looked like this:
*Got up after no sleep whatsoever.
*Cried.
*Spent 40 mins rocking backwards & forwards whimpering 'Why won't it JUST GO?'
*Ditto the above but louder with full range of increasingly vitriolic expletives.
*Sadly spurn all nice food options offered by mr f as no appetite whatsoever so living on water, lucozade (that stuff is vile) & smoothies.
*Throw umpteen remedies at the relentless headache, none of which actually worked.
*8pm - go to bed, ready to repeat the whole joyous cycle the next day.
AND I'VE HAD THE BLOODY FLU JAB!!! I read that this year's weren't very effective as a different strain of flu was expected. I guess I may just have run into the Fijiian version? Can't believe how quickly it came on. Anyway, I am improving but it is very slow progress & I have no energy at all. This morning I've managed to do my big budget day (should have been done on 27th June!), so although it felt like harder work on the grey cells than usual, I do feel happier being back in control. I've not yet been able to do any of the cooking, cleaning, household stuff, & the veggie garden is just full of jobs needing my attention, but I'm just not up to it yet. Sorry to moan. I didn't have flu for 30 years, then got it 2 years running. That just seems a bit rubbish to me. It has wiped me out on both occasions, but I nearly asked mr f to take me to A&E last week because trying to get a fever down when it's 34 degrees outside is just such hard work. Thankfully, we remembered we'd got a fan up in the loft so I lay under that for the next few days.
Hope everyone else is ok,

Hi Dudes
A late check in from me today. I managed some good small things though.
1. I bought eggs & bananas today, both of which are rewardable on Checkoutsmart for 10p each, so scanned my reciept in to claim.
2. Went through the bank account (s) & ticked off any reciepts that had cleared.
3. Logged all spends that had cleared the account in my app.
4. Recieved £1.20 in tips
5. Used a wombled triple points voucher at Mr S
6. Found 3p roadkill
7. Am making a chicken risotto for dinner to use up some veg & chicken from sundays roast. Stock is on the stove!
8. Chatted to another trader who told me that June was the worst month in retail in 10 years according to Retail Week magazine. That is very interesting to know. (to me)
9. Packed sons lunch for tommorow
10. Chased my £30 survey payment for the telephone interview I did last week
11. Cycled all journies
12. Visted the library for son. Took out 5 books. Used 3 library cards which maximises our free DVD hire when the rewards total 6 reciepts per card. When he is on summer hols it is much easier for me to get to the library to do this.
Off for a bath!

Hi gang,
Welcome back Foxgloves. We missed you. Today's efforts:
:grinheart Went to work. Currently on a temporary promotion. Less physical but giving the brain a huge workout. Have spent the day dealing with dramas and crises at work (that's my job).
:grinheart Ate budget recipe stew made by OH.
:grinheart Shared bath.
Now crawling onto sofa to recover and to listen to some BBC podcasts.

Hey! I am new to the party. Managed to get myself into debt because of my wedding, PhD, and having to move out of student accommodation. All the stressful stuff happened at once! I have decided to get my head out of my backside and do something about it! I have done the big things e.g. cancelled mobile phone contract, cut up credit cards and cancelled unnecessary memberships. I checked my bank account and I realised that I am racking up huge spends on things I take for granted. So today my DFW acts were as follows:
1. Actually walked the three miles to uni instead of taking the bus. My thighs and purse will thank me one day.
2. Because I walked, I didn't have to pass the Starbucks near the bus-stop, so I didn't buy a morning coffee. I have a serious latte habit and it was costing me around £30 a week. I made use of the free coffee in my department instead.
3. Had a packed lunch consisting of a 'Sunday roast' baguette, made from leftover roast pork and stuffing.
4. I sorted out unpaid invoices for tutoring and expenses - amounting to approximately £600. Why I didn't do this before is beyond me.
5. Filled in some Prolific Academic surveys. I have made £25 since I joined on Saturday (need to update my signature).
6. Made a nice dinner of Aldi beef meatballs, with a chopped red pepper, reduced to clear tomato and basil pasta sauce (60 p), and reduced to clear red onions (20 p)
Small steps but they are helping me to get into the mindset of not spending the earth.
Best wishes and good luck to all of the DFWs on MSE,
