    That's a bit harsh.

The OP could be learning a new skill to work self employed from home, then they won't be "using your taxes" at all, apart from PIP.

That's fair enough, however when I was studying, I had the choice of doing it through the UK system (which meant the student loans system), or through the system I studied (which was free, but didn't come with accommodation allowances etc either)

Maybe it was a bit harsh, but my opinion on working from home is to do something that you can, that you know something about, then look at improving skills, not the other way around.

  • :( wow ok your very mean
like i said in the post i have no qualification not even a gcse behind me because i was moved at 15 just before my gcse and taken out of school throw no fault of my own i was just a child and couldn't control it. if i went for any job wouldn't get them cos i dont even have the basics.

im house bound so its very hard for me i need my partner consent care
you dont no much about my life or situation i was just asking some advise about if i did a courses at home what would i lose im in private rented and i need to stay in my home.

to be honest with you everyone in the uk has some sort of benefit and i bet inculding you, working tax credit is still classed as a benefit, some money off your council tax, housing benefit ect even if you are working full time but if you need to make sure you can pay the bills ect then thats what you got to do.

student loans you pay back once you get a full time job earning 22k so the courses i have been looking in to if i pass them all i would be making more then that a year.
    so please don't judge everyone.

    Please ignore judgemental posts.

The very best person to ask about courses is your advisor.

Some courses are free for those on income related benefits.

If you're on contributions based ESA you won't lose your benefits. I'm on Conts ESA with a tuition fee loan studying for an English degree with the Open University and it doesn't affect my benefits.
And where are all these work from home jobs?! I would love to know...

Lionbridge, Appen, Leapforce, the hundreds of crowdsourcing websites such as crowdflower, clickworker, microworker etc. Oh not to mention specialist ones such as customer service (arise/callcatcherz), secretarial (accuro, uk transcription etc).

There's plenty of work from home jobs, just lots of people who claim to be unable to find them.

I have a wonderful condition called Behcets, alongside some other pretty crap stuff; I work, I go to OU, and I can manage it. But then again, I think the OP would be better off starting with a basic English course or IT course as they don't have GCSEs.

I'm on esa and I've recently completed an open university access course. I needed to get a letter from the ou to confirm the course took on average less than 16 hours a week to complete, which it did.

I've also successfully been awarded a tuition loan to begin a six year, part time degree course. This will also take, I think, about 15 hours a week to complete.

    Hope this helps.

And no, no benefits were affected.
