problems with this weeks vista updates

i downloaded the 11 updates (vista + office) this week using the update tool and ran them. the computer switched itself off. i tried again and the same thing happened. so i unchecked the first update and installed the next 10. no problems.

tried the first one again on its own and off went the pc. the update which will not install is the cummulative security update for ie7 (KB937143).

is anyone else having this issue? and or found a solution

thanks in advance

matt

When you say the computer switches off.. what exactly happens, does the update begin to install then the pc shuts down normally (as if you'd initiated a shutdown) or does it instantly go off.. also does it reboot or actually power off ?
Run the update again, noting the time.. then when the PC boots back up go to the 'start search' box on the start menu and type in 'eventvwr' and hit enter. look at the application and system logs in 'Windows Logs' on the left menu.. see if there are any warning or error events at the time you tried to install the update, then post the details here.

the pc just switches off as though the plug has been pulled.

I did a search on the microsoft knowledge forum and it seems a number of users are having problems with that patch.

I will have a look for that event log though when I get home.

    thanks for the advice
