Swiss National and unable to get current bank account

Hello, I am a Swiss national and have lived and worked in the UK for 2 years now. I have a basic bank account where my salary has been paid into on a monthly basis and would like to upgrade to a current bank account. Unfortunately I get refused from every bank.
As a Swiss national I am eligible to live and work in the UK them same way as people from EU countries, however, it is not possible to go on the electoral register. I believe that this is the reason why I am unable to get a current bank account.
Are there any other Swiss nationals living in the UK who could give me some advise on what I can do?

Because they are considered to be foreigners.

Did your own bank give any reason for refusing you?

Anyway, open a basic account with a different bank, and they should be willing to upgrade you after six months.
  • No, they said all they can do is a credit check and that it shows that I am not eligible for it and that is all they know. They initially said that I would be able to upgrade after 6 months...

I see, good point, I assumed those abroad could be registered on the ER.

    Thanks
