Dell Computers

Hi there, been planning a new computer for a loooooong time but had put it of firstly for exams at uni, waiting for intels new chips and price drops, and then for various other things over the past couple of months that meant i wouldn't have enough time to justify buying as early as that.

Anyway I'd decided to go with a small company that seemed to give great deals when compared to anywhere else. With a decent 8800GTS(640MB) and Quad Core processor system at around £800, I'd still need to add a monitor to that.

However on my internet travels the other night i found a deal from Dell whereby i got a similar system but with the superior 8800GTX and Dell's 22 inch widescreen monitor(retail £300) for £927, as i was planning a 19" widescreen for around £120-150 it seems silly to not spend the same cash on a 22"

However i have a few questions to ask, the system is the dell 9200, I'm wondering about 2 things, 1. If anyone knows anything about the RAM they include and 2. Their power supplies, what anyone knows of them. Also if anyone has this system could they tellme any opinions they have on it such as how noisy it is?

Edit: Actually i've missed out the most imporant question.

The motherboard, Can i overclock with the included motherboard and if not could i easily switch it with another board.

Also is business Vista lacking in features?

Dell 9200 has a 375kW average power supply. The power rating is relatively low because Dell like to use average figures rather than peak rating figures that other manufacturers use.

I have 9150 with a GeForce 7950 card, and the system is fairly quiet, though there are quieter sytems around. My machine was very quiet with its original ATI X600 graphics card.

Memory is DDR2, either 533 or 667 Mhz depending upon the processor.

Dell uses BTX format motherboards and cases, which would be hard to swap. Dell also tend to have their own BIOS configuration with a minimum number of options.

If you don't want Vista Business, you can also get the 9200 with Vista Home Premium.

Yeah, thanks, I was curious about the PSU rating considering 375kW is very low for running an 8800 GTX.

To be Honest i'd rather just have the basic Vista so will probably phone them(on 0800 from that website everyone talks about) or speak in their live chat to someone there about it as i'm following a link from a website that lists deals on dell and if i go straight onto Dell and select the same system i can't get it anywhere near the same price (has a different Code underneath the name of the system)

Thanks for the help, I don't know why i'm even asking about noise as i doubt it could be any louder than this laptop and external fan(as in just a normal fan to cool down the back of it)

I just can't look past the monitor they're including, plus with quidco or any other discount i can manage on the phone it brings the price even closer to the specialist built systems which would obviously have some advantages(choosing components, some components would be a higher quality) but don't think the advantgaes match the price (would cost me over £1100 to add the 22 inch monitor to a self built or specialist built system with superior RAM and PSU but not as good Graphics)

Phew, Just off the phone, Ordered it with the 8800 GTX. Web Price £927.07, He offered £900 first (after proclaiming not to understand what I meant by discount lol) then £887, then he either talked to or pretended to talk to his manager and it became £866, I hastily accepted which in retrospect i might not have done, maybe would have seen if i could squeeze another £10-30 out of them, I'd been pretty cool up until then but guess i just lost it at that point. Still, considering even on the Dell website what i configured comes out well over the £927 starting point (It's £1095, I used an E-value Code 305-D08922 if anyone is interested although i think the offer ends tomorrow) I think i did alright!
