How long is reasonable to wait for a 2nd class RM parcel?

Sold an item last weekend on depop (selling mobile app), the buyer wanted to pay away from depop and seemed abit dodgy, just as I was about to block them they bought the item so I decided to send 2nd class signed for large letter on Tuesday, as I just had a feeling it may go 'missing'.

By Friday the buyer had already messaged me saying where is the item and did I have a tracking number, they didn't know I'd sent it signed for (it's only an £8 item). Gave them it and heard nothing until today, where they have opened a dispute on depop against me, I think this is a new thing like an ebay case.

They've told me to give the tracking number which I have done, now when I check the tracking it says its 'being processed through the network for delivery' My question is what's likely to have happened here? Is it possible it may still turn up, or could it have been delivered without a signature and the buyer is taking a chance?

The best thing would be to ask to post office but it normally takes 3-4 days when I use 2nd class.

What's likely to have happened here is that the package was delivered to the recipient.
The recipient noticed that they weren't asked to sign for it, so realised that Royal Mail have no proof of delivery.
The recipient feels quite safe in asking you about the parcel because he knows that RM will be unable to find it... simply because he already has it.
No idea how Depop disputes work, but if it's anything like ebay then you will lose the case as you cannot prove delivery.
  • Yeah usually it never has really taken more than 3 days to receive a second class parcel, I thought that was the most likely scenario, just strange that it somehow wasn't signed for, I specifically sent it as the buyer gave me a bad feeling, perhaps it's something they do often

Me & a seller have just joked weve had the longest ebay transaction ever..
I won an auction on 3rd june, I didnt realise and forgot all about it, then on 11th I realised I had an unpaid item waiting! so I paid, seller was that day off on holiday for 2 weeks, 26th june seller messages saying the item was on its way! 3rd july I messaged seller saying the item hadnt arrived, she said t hadnt been sent tracked so wasnt sure what to do. It was only a couple of pounds so I left it, today I go down into my garage and either yesterday or today it had been left in the garage! I emailed seller to let her know it had turned up and all is good in the world!

Last item I sent recorded with royal mail never updated and says processing through system but still arrives.

I agree with wealdroam sounds like this buyer is aware of this and most likely does have your item.

Did you put a return address on it in case it is actually lost it maybe returned to you.
  • That's what i'm thinking, yeah i did put the return address on the back, its just a case of what are the chances of the item going missing, especially with one of those buyers who harrass you about the whereabouts of of the item 24 hours after payment :o

Is there any chance they could have delivered the item and just not asked for a signature?

    Yes, a frequent phenomenon.
