http://www.moneymanagerex.org is free and has a desktop and mobile versions which sync through Dropbox. It his powerful reporting. Especially if you can programme SQL. But there is an active forum where you can request people to write reports for you. I have written reports to mimick everything from other software I have used so this is the ultimate software for me with unlimited power and flexibility.
These reports are just a combination of SQL and HTML so have tables and graph on the reports.0 -

We've been using this. It's a little complicated to understand at first, but once you understand all the accounting, then it's quite simple. IT can be used for business or personal finances, so if you're used to business side of things, then this should be really helpful for you. If you use linux, i think you can get it through the installation manager, otherwise use the link above.
It doesn't have a lot of fancy bells and whistles, but it has plenty of built in features that are extremely useful to us.
I used to use this for a couple of years until I converted my accounts to my previous post. I managed to write all the reports gnucash has in money manager ex.0 -

You are correct, you need to set up categories and assign them yourself. I can't think how something would automatically be able to do that, how would it know what analysis categories you want? I could see how something could "learn" based on previous assignments (which MS Money 2000 does to an extent) but not how it would decide the categories in the first place, other than a basic template that might not suit your needs.0
