ebookers - stay away from them!

I had a horrendous experience with this "travel agency". I should have never booked my ticket through them, as they are a scam.

- First of all, there is no accessible phone number. They have an international (UK) phone number with no US base. So if you are like me and have a limited calling plan, you won't be able to call them.

- Second, there is no email address! This should have been my first warning. Never trust a place with no email! They'll have a chat, but you can't change your flight or do anything through that. They'll tell you to call them

- Third, the phone number they give you is a UK - based, but really, you're speaking to people in India. So ebookers, supposedly English, is tricking us to believe they are in the UK when they are not

- Fourth, they are useless, mean, uneducated people. They will hang up on you when you try to change the flight.

- A change in itinerary, day, or whatever small modification you want to make costs about half the price of the entire ticket!

- Sixth, payment options are not flexible at all. If you want to pay with credit card, they charge a service fee. Only debit cards are free of that fee, and that's another sign of a scam. They make you use a debit card so that they can get your money.

I hope you can read this and know that, if I had done my research properly, I wouldn't have booked ANYTHING through ebookers. STAY AWAY FROM EBOOKERS, THEY ARE A SCAM!

You know it is a UK company? The clue is the London address on their homepage. You know this is a UK site too?

Cheap air tickets are not flexible, and that is not the fault of the agency.

the way around that is to make sure you purchase a fully flexible ticket to start with - it may cost 3x the price of the restricted ticket but you will be able to make changes with only the agency fees. Better still, book the fully flexible direct with the airline and there would be no fees at all
Did you consider the rules of the ticket you were buying and the flexibility you would require?
note: the majority of the charges will be dictated by the fare rules and are collected by the airline (change fee plus fare difference so you would have had this to pay if you bought this type of ticket direct from the airline too)

I used them once to book a ticket to Kenya. A week before I was due to leave to visit my wife a civil war broke out over there due to rigged election vote counting. Being white and married to a Kenyan I would have been a good target for the opposing tribe. It was too dangerous for me. E-bookers wouldn't refund my ticket even though I couldn't go. But they did refund the taxes. I vowed to never use them again.

did e-bookers rig the election? if not i dont see your point.

im 99.9% sure you would have bought a non-changeable/non-refundable ticket therefore when YOU decided to cancel why would you expect a refund from e-bookers?

also they are only an agent so your gripe, if it was a legitimate one, should be the respective airline

Sadly, the people likely to book with this company (or similar ones) won't read this advice before booking - just the same as you.
Lots of similar posts on Tripadvisor about ebookers.
