AMEX Cashback Card - tool says 0% chance I'll be accepted??

Hi all,

I've wanted to apply for Amex Platinum Everyday

I used the tool & it says;

"0% Accepted. You are not eligible for this card"

In fact all of the AMEX cards show 0% chance.

All I can see for the eligibility criteria is "Min income: £20,000" & I earn far in excess of this.

I do remember apply for a Nectar Credit card which I think I was refused from, perhaps 5 or more years ago - wasn't sure why I was refused. I do move house every couple of years as I'm renting privately.

I think I've got a fair credit score, I use Noddle monthly which says I have 3/5. Always pay on time. I have a couple of good cards already. On the Electoral Roll.

I'd like to apply but with MSE saying 0% I don't want to leave a mark on my file.

Could anybody help please?

Thanks.

What do your credit files say (not the scores, the data on them)?

Amex are picky and it seems reasonable to assume there's something on there that they don't like.

How would I find this out?

To be quiet honest, I take the eligibility calculator with a huge pinch of salt.

When I put my details in, it says 0% chance for an AmEx, however three weeks ago I obtained a charge card, British Airways AmEx, Nectar AmEx and the Platinum Cashback AmEx. Total credit across the cards is £8,700.

Still says I've 0% chance. And that was with a default on my file, which falls off next week.

I supposedly had 0% chance but got an Amex a few months ago, so don't take it as gospel.

That's very interesting thank you. In which case I think I'll give the application a go when I'm back from holiday in a couple of weeks to make the most of the initial 5% on purchases in 3 months, if I get accepted that is.

Thanks! What an earth is the point of the tool then when it's quite so inaccurate :|

Like others have said, I wouldn't rely too heavily on the checker.

I had a 0% chance and now have a Gold card & Plat Cashback card. I don't need both, so will give one up next year. Although it is nice to double up on the Offers Amex give you :)
