Best value pet insurance for 9 year old cat?

Direct Line are now charging me £17 a month for pet insurance for my nine year old cat. I know that it's probably getting more expensive as she's getting older, but does anyone know any better deals that I could switch to? Thanks!

Has kitty had any illnesses, injuries, etc? Any vet visits other than vaccinations?0

No, apart from having a few teeth out. We've never claimed on the insurance0

£17 a month is pretty good for a 9 year old cat. It's a choice you need to make...do you keep the insurance or cancel it. She's getting old she's more likely to have a claim but then on the other hand as she is getting old it'll be unfair to put her through any treatment and all you need is palliative care in her last few years..which can be quite expensive too. My cat was on the Metacam for her last few years and that cost less than what you're paying in insurance.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

The reason I asked was that anything he's ever had will become pre-existing if you switch.
It's not a question of whether you claimed. Most insurers exclude anything you've ever consulted a vet about, whether you claimed or not.
From the sounds of it you haven't even been to the vet, but just flagging this as it's an important distinction.
You could get quotes from the others - Pet Plan, More Than, etc. £17 at nine years old sounds good to me though. We're paying £11 per month for a three year old cat, though that is a top-level 'for life' cover. Just be aware of what a new insurer will exclude. If you went to a vet because kitty threw up and they wrote "vomiting" on his record, you'll never be covered for vomiting.
I know people who have stopped insuring at age ten because the price just got too high so they decided to self-insure instead.
We're expecting a horrendous renewal price as we've paid about £130 for our first year's insurance had £600 of claims. :eek:0 -
My cat is with Petplan - started when she was nine (when we had her), pay about £11 a month - with I think £95 excess.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
