medium sized dent on rental van - eek!

Hi everyone,

i've got a small van on rent from enterprise. I accidentally reversed into lampost (doh!) and there is a medium sized dent at the very top of the back of the van.

I've resigned myself to losing my deposit (£200) or praying they don't see it which is very unlikely.

I didn't take the damage waiver excess protection option. However, ive just read through the rental agreement again and it says damage excess is £1150! Does this mean i'll have to pay £1150 to them rather than let them keep my £200 deposit?

Also, anyone with experience know how well enterprise check their vans when you take them back?

You'll have to pay them for whatever it costs to repair the damage caused. Capped at £1150.

Of course that doesn't mean they can take it to Micks garage who will charge £1k for £150 worth of work on some cashback agreement.

They're also allowed to charge (within the £1150) for the lost profit from renting the van out, whilst its off being repaired.

This is why most of us take out the excess waiver protection, especially on short hires.

You took the chance, and unfortunately on this occasion you lost out.

Is the paint damaged? Could a smart repair guy knock it out before you return the van?

Which is exactly why I always take care when accepting any hire car and go over it myself with a fine tooth comb before driving it away. I don't want to get landed with some previous user's dings, ta very much.
