Well the longer the white bars the better the strength and signal.

So it's input 2 that's the problem, does it say OK next to 'Input 2 Lock Indicator'?

Signals both very good and lock indicators both OK.

It's either the LNB failing or out of line , something obscuring the direct line to the satellite ( tree, scaffolding etc) , water ingress in the cable

No scaffolding, always had trees across road and went wrong before we had heavy rain.

Sky Engineer came today and the dish had been struck by lightning.
Would this have happened if I had unplugged the Sky when the thunderstorm happened?

    He's lying or misinformed
If lightning had hit the dish, you'd have a whole lot more issues than a few missing channels.

Lightning could well cause you some problems leading to damage to the LNB or receiver but the dish wasn't struck, I'm fairly sure you'd have noticed that ;)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I agree - you would have a fried sky box and worse - probably a big hole in the dish too !!

A big hole in the side of the house would be the clue, if it was still there after the fire :)

Was the Sky Engineer called Richard Head by any chance? If so he is one of their top men and his expert opinion should be respected. After all he has the benefit of many years training and experience. The posters in this site are mere amateurs when commenting upon such high tech kit.

I would suggest that you erect a high lightening conductor above your roof with a substantial copper connecting bar to run to a very deep earth rod in the ground.

    Harsh, very harsh ;)

But seriously, I wonder if he said it had been struck by lightning (which, yes, would leave a heck of a lot of other damage), or something more along the lines of killed by a lightning strike. Having had to replace all three housephones a few years ago after a lightning strike a couple of streets away, that is a far from implausible scenario ...
