Changed direct debit paid twice.

in Credit cards
I changed the bank that the direct debit is paid from for my wife's Tesco credit card and I thought that I would have to pay by bank transfer for the present statement due on 7th July so I did on Friday 3rd July.
I've just checked the credit card online and it has Friday's payment and also has a DD payment of the same amount on the 5th July.
Will this DD payment be sent back or will there be a credit balance for the next 2 months?
Normal spend is about £300 a month but a holiday was also charged so there are 2 payments of £700.

I can't see why it would be returned as a matter of course, unless your card issuer is particularly set against positive balance. To get the money returned you can either contact the card issuer, explain what happened, and ask for it back, or contact your bank to ask for a refund under the DD Guarantee.0

If I remember correctly, Tesco will return, in full, any payment which you make which puts your account in credit. In this case, however, it looks as though the payment which you made, on the 3rd, did not put your account in credit but it was Tesco's call on your DD, on the 5th, which will lead to a credit balance.
In the circumstances, it is likely that Tesco will not return any payment but this is uncharted territory so it will interesting to find out how they deal with it.

If I transfer the money back to my bank account by myself will I incur any interest on the transfer?over 73 but not over the hill.0

Presumably not, as you are in credit, but you may incur a fee. Why not ring 'em up? They're quite friendly and don't bite

Complicated.
It's my wife's account and she isn't available
I look after it and pay it for her, she just spends on it.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -

On my virgin money card when I was looking at the "transfer money to bank" section. It said on there that if you have a positive balance and are wanting the money back to call them for a refund so that you dont incure a money transfer fee.
I know you said thats not possible, so you will need to either get your wife to call (somehow) or incure the fee

OP, It might be easier, in the circumstances, just to leave the credit balance until reduced by spending over the next few months. I don't think there is any penalty for having a credit balance because it would seem that Tesco should reject any payment which produces a credit.kindofagilr wrote: ». . .I know you said thats not possible, so you will need to either get your wife to call (somehow) or incure the fee

I think you should first be checking both banks to see which one the DD came from (it may not be the one you were expecting) or whether it was even taken, before proceeding any further0
