Dusseldorf Airport to Dusseldorf Central

Hi,

Anyone able to give me an idea of how much the train is from the main Dusseldorf Airport into the city centre? I've tried to buy tickets on the bahn.de website, but it won't give me a price.

Thanks

Don't pre buy, just buy from the machine at the station.

There's a dusseldorf train station and a terminal station, the former for long distance and the latter for local, though for dusseldorf hauptbahnhof you can use either. From terminal c you're directed to the sky train, which costs 2.5 euros ish, though you could probably walk.

Cost for a single is less than 10 euro. Though machines don't take cards so you'll need euro cash, the machines give change. Don't take the ic or ice trains as they are more expensive and need to be pre booked, regional or s bahn trains are fine.

DBahn doesn't give you a price as it is a local ticket.
Local public transport tickets in Germany can confusing dependent on how many travel and their age groups.
I have visited Germany extensively thanks to Mr O'Leary and although I do not know the cost it will be a single trip local ticket and I would be surprised if it is more than 3 to 5 euros each due to the airports proximity to the city.
I have visited Dusseldorf three times but into Weeze and have done this via the airport shuttle bus or train each time.
Don't pre-buy it will be as cheap as chips at the airport with an English option on the machines.

Also when you get into dusseldorf and have booked with a local non chain hotel they may be able to get a free regional transport ticket for the duration of your stay, Google vrr hotel free travel.
  • At the airport, follow the signs for the Skytrain. This will take you to Düsseldorf-Flughafen mainline rail station. From there, catch a train to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (central station). As said above, the regional transport tickets are not valid for IC / ICE trains.

There are ticket machines on the Skytrain platform and you should buy your ticket to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof there. You have to validate (time-stamp) it in a separate little machine. This ticket also covers the Skytrain trip. Expect to pay EUR 4 - 5 one-way.

Not actually needed for many tickets now. We travelled round the area extensively and only had to time stamp maybe two out of ten tickets. Also only had our tickets checked one time over all the trips.

I am always amazed in Germany at the lack of barriers and checks on tickets on their local public transport ie u & s bahn.
I only recall ever having my ticket checked in Berlin and Leipzig all other times we have just jumped on and off trains or trams and never been checked.
I have to admit I have been tempted to risk not buying a ticket a couple of times but have then thought it not worth the risk of the embarrassment if checked and the ensuing fine.
I usually buy a day ticket or 3 day pass where available.
