Amazon kindle

Options
My kindle has broken within its 12 month warranty period so I contacted Amazon who said they would send me a replacement. I have just received the replacement and it's a refurbished kindle not a new one. Are they allowed to do this?

Yes, they put you in the same position on a like for like basis, a used one for a refurb is perfectly acceptable. Send in a used one get one back, saves waiting on your getting repaired, same difference.

Well you did send them a 12 month old one, so you can hardly expect a new one in return.

As above, you could always ask for yours to be repaired, but this could take a while.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I was only asking as a few places now just replace items with a new one rather than repair the old one.

It's usually up to the retailer but it depends a lot on the item and the retailer.
If the item is newish and the retailer has to return it to the manufacturer they'll often do a straight swap as it may cost them less and mean you are given a working one straight away.

With Amazon being both the main retailer of the Kindle and it's "manufacturer" (or at least the only distributor) they'll get the returns so there is no incentive for them to simply swap for a new one on a faulty one that is nearly a year old (as they may have a large stock in hand of items that have been factory refurbed).

However Amazon class items that have been returned after a day or two and simply needed a clean and repackage as refurbished, so it's entirely possible the unit you're received isn't a refurb as in repaired, but a refub as in "checked, cleaned up, put in suitable packaging".
