Apologies if this is a bit off topic for this thread (newbie), and that this might seem like a question for an Ebay forum - but have tried there already to no avail... I am also a newbie to using Best Offer (either as seller or buyer) and am confused by the free postage issue - the Ebay "Making a Best Offer" rules say the that if making an offer which doesn't include postage the potential buyer should make this clear in a note, yet I am receiving offers on items I'm selling which have an Ebay "Info" comment that Postage is not included in the offer, but nothing in the note from the buyer. Have looked at this from the point of view of the offer dialogue box for a free postage item, and this simply specifies "Free postage", with no option that I can see to indicate that your offer doesn't include the postage. I am concerned that if I accept the offer either a) I won't be able to add my postage cost on or b) I will add the postage and the buyer may dispute the amount,as it hasn't been agreed in advance. Any advice gratefully received!

I think the post you quoted was wrong.

The BIN terms remain the same, so if you have an item up with free postage then the offer is for the item only as postage is automatically free. If your BIN item shows postage then the offer , unless stated otherwise, is for the item and the postage is added on as per the BIN listing.

Virtually all my BINs are free postage, but I charge extra for overseas buyers. So if they send me an offer and I accept it, the correct postage for their country is then added on on the invoice.

If an item is free postage the seller cannot then add on further postage on an offer.

  • Thanks to both for very quick and helpful replies! Basically your answers confirm what I thought must be the case, but was confused by Ebay's little bit of (mis)Information!

We have stopped using it, as we where getting 99p offers on £1500 items

So why didn't you use the 'automatically reject offers under...' function?

Anyway, back to the OP's question, it is a lot easier now that you get '3 goes at it' back in the old days it was one offer and you're out if it was rejected. At least now you can get a counter offer and decide whether you want to go on from there.

As others have said, some sellers put best offer when they really only want to offer it if you buy more than one item so as long as it doesn't fall into that kind of category then just put in what you'd like to pay and see what happens from there. If it comes back immediately it means they have set an automatic reject in place (likewise you might get immediately accepted if there is an automatic acceptance in place) if there is a wait then you'll have to see if they seller wants to take your offer or gives you a counter offer. Good luck
