Its £20 to replace a lost licence but free if you change the address. Try changing the address before applying for a replacement.

But don't they expect the old licence back first? Or has that now changed since there's officially now no paper counter-part?

They do ask for it sending back, but there's a box to tick to say it's lost or destroyed and therefore can't be returned.
    Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

    Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,000

So it's an option to change your address to a mate's house and get a new licence declaring the old one is lost, then change back to your own address. All done with no cost to you? Nice one. That the sort of money saving I like.

You don't need to say it's lost: when you report a change of address you get a new licence free.

Which brings us back to ... don't they expect the old licence back before issuing the new licence for a change of address? Otherwise they'd charge for a lost licence?
