Ukraine International

Just saw an insane price for London Gatwick to Beijing, via Kiev, on Sky Scanner.

I used to use Travelocity.co.uk , which never showed Ukraine International. Is this a joke? How long have they been flying?

It's really funny, because they actually fly to Moscow.

How much is life insurance for £10million, and do they pay out for being shot down by missiles?

UIA are the national airline since early 90's with a large route network, variable standards and some bargain fares. Give them a try - you will save money, but probably worth investing in a good book to read. I chose Wizz Air to Crimea via Kiev instead of UIA only because Stansted is more convenient for me than Gatwick.

They are a real airline, and the reviews on AirlineQuality are fairly informative. They are well-known as offering one of the cheapest ways of getting from Europe to Thailand.

The air disaster in Ukraine involved a Malaysian 'plane, not a Ukrainian one.

I find this absolutely offensive, to be honest.

Would you find it so funny if I started making references to not flying American planes because they tend to get blown up over Scotland, or making references to not flying BA because they tend to miss the runway?
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

i was looking at prices last week for the far east and some of the prices on Ukraine airlines were well cheap , although i can see why as most involved 12hr+ layovers and checking them out on airline quality websites they dont sound very good in terms of service and comfort

Interesting... Kyev is very high on my list of places to visit, but all their flights only gave you an hour or so to change 'planes on the way East. I would far prefer 12 hours or more...

Just because somebody says a snake bit his bum when going number 2 in a field, doesn't mean that he doesn't want to go camping. I had to bury my own do-do on the Appalachian Trail, but I'm not complaining.

I have done a fair bit of the budget destinations, including Krakow, Zakopane (in full ski gear) and Warsaw. In fact, I passed through Warsaw 25 years ago, and changed money outside the train station, and saw an old lady trying to sell three tomatoes, which was all she had.

I got on a train in China at 9pm that was so packed, that I couldn't even stand up straight for the first six hours, because I had nowhere to put my feet, with my backpack on. There was a bread van packed full of backpackers that had obviously never heard of an MOT from Taiyuan to a mountain that was in the middle of nowhere.

I remember all these trips with fond memories, and the physical discomfort are all part of the fun. Kiev is one of those C-list destinations that I will check out, but probably when it's a bit more stable.

By the way, I don't fly BA because the luggage handlers are evil.
I was on a shuttle to Manchester, and they diverted us to Liverpool, because the luggage handlers were on strike. It's a shuttle from London, where hardly anybody had check-in luggage!
In a hostel in Shanghai, a woman arrived minus her luggage. She had flown from Frankfurt to Heathrow because she wanted to fly BA.:rotfl: I could easily have been on her flight, if I didn't have more sense and flew Virgin instead.

I was having this issue with Qatar Airways, transferring in Doha.
All I had to do was to tick the higher price options, and the transfer time come down to sensible hours. Good duty free, but not six hours worth.

Dubai seems to do a three day transit visa, so I'm thinking about a stop-over next time with Emirates. £550 to Taiwan return is ridiculously cheap, and only one stop!

    Yes, I would.

None of those options are very funny in reality.

"That is the insurance that you would need to fly on Malaysian Airlines, because their pilots have a habit of getting lost and either wandering into war zones or getting abducted by aliens. You would need something similar for flying on a German airline, because they sometimes allow war criminals and psychopaths to take charge in the cockpit."

Now do you see how offensive those comments could have seemed to be (as well as being inaccurate)? Although legitimate English humour often comes over as offensive to people who did not grow up in our culture.
