Using 'Photos' on a Mac, problem moving files to EHD

I'm using 'Photos' on an iMac and trying to move approx 50Gb of photos to an EHD and I keep getting told....

'The library could not be opened. Photos has attempted to repair the library 'Photo's Library' but is unable to open it'

I've tried using Alt + Cmd to access 'repair the library' on the EHD but it just goes to 5% and then quits.

I previously had my photos in the old iPhoto's which worked fine on this EHD but after a bit of a clean up I thought I would start again and drag the whole intact new Photo's library across instead. (Photo's works fine on the Mac but not on the EHD for some reason!) Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong please?

iMac with Yosemite 10.10.4

260Gb free of 500Gb

Samsung EHD 802Gb free of 1Tb

(Is there anything that works better than 'Photo's' on a Mac? Not liking it much at all. I do have all the photos saved anyway on a Windows PC - which seems a doddle in comparison!!)

Easy. Revert to your iPhoto library backup and simply use iPhoto. There's no need to use 'Photos'.

Does "EHD" mean External Hard Drive?
Exactly how are you "trying to move approx 50Gb of photos"?
    (That's not a lot. 50Gb is only 6.25GB.)

Thanks, I'd already put the iPhoto library back up on the external hard drive again...this works ok but I would really like to know why Photos will not work and what I might do to make it work! I'm quite new to a Mac so still stumbling my way round...

    Thanks again

    Close Photos.

Hold down the opt ion key, the on labeled alt, and open Photos.

You will get the option to open an existing library from a list, create a new library plus there's an Other Library button.

Just create a new library on the external drive and delete the faulty one.
