Cancelling one card and getting another - best method?

in Credit cards
Hi I wonder if any members can offer guidance for my current situation. I recently graduated from university and have held a Natwest Student Credit Card for just over a year with a tiny £500 credit limit that has always been repaid in full on time. I need to close the card by September but would like to transfer to another card - preferably the Halifax Clarity Card or Santander 123 (eligibility check suggests 90/100).
Would it be best (credit score & acceptance chances wise) whether to apply for the new card before closing the Natwest card, or close the Natwest Card first and then apply for the new card - or doesn't it make much of a difference? Appreciate any advice thanks!

Probably won't make much difference given the low limit.
Sounds like your credit history is good, if a bit limited, so you shouldn't have a problem being accepted.0 -
Could you not upgrade your credit card with Natwest to an ordinary credit card and increase the limit? Keep it for emergencies as its your oldest card, plus applying for another card with perks?0

Sadly I am not permitted to have any RBS (or Natwest) products by September or else I would do exactly that so I must switch both my Student/Graduate Account & Credit Card by then.0 -

Oh ok, I would personally apply before cancelling as it will take 4-6 weeks for your credit file to be updated by Natwest anyways but I don't think it makes much of a differenceGood luck with applying and let us know how you get on!
