Mum DLA & Father's Pension Credit

Hi,

I am just looking through my parents entitlement to benefits.

My mum in receipt of High mobility but no care component.
She is also receiving carers allowance for my dad - only a small amount £16.23pw. My father is in receipt of Attendance allowance.

Is it possible for someone receiving high mobility (unable to walk) but no care components?

And why the carer allowance is only £16.23pw? It should have been at least £61pw I would have thought.

If I apply to transfer carers allowance into my wifes name - will she get full £61pw and will that effect any of my parents benefits?

Thanks
MS

Does your wife actually fulfill the criteria ? (does she spend a minimum of 35 hours a weeks caring for your father, and does she earn under £110 a week)

Yes she does. All live in same house so she is the one who cares for both of my parents. My father is over 80 and mother coming to 70.

Your mother will be getting a State Pension. She can't get a SP and the full amount of CA. She is entitled to an "underlying entitlement to CA" which brings in the extra £16.23.

Does your mother have care needs as well as mobility problems? If so, she should claim Attendance Allowance.

If she has care needs of her own, is she able to provide 35 hours of care for her husband?

Since your mum is already receiving the mobility component of DLA and if she has had care needs for the last 6 months then she needs to report a change of circumstances and see if she is eligible for the care component of DLA.

    AA has no mobility component.

If she is awarded the care component of DLA then your parents should get a benefit check up as this may increase their entitlement.

Carer's Allowance then may affect their entitlement so to maximise their income they need a full benefit check up.

I would get in touch with AgeUK and ask for a benefit check up visit.

    Hi,

Thanks for all your replies. I will contact Age UK.

My mum is in receipt of high mobility under DLA claim. Not sure why she is claiming carers allowance for my father - She is not position to look after my father 35 hrs pw.

So if the carers allowance gets transferred over to my wifes name. Will that have any effect on my parents benefits at the moment?

If my mother is accepted for care component on existing DLA claim - what difference to there entitlement will make when my wife is my father carer?

    Thanks

If your wife starts claiming CA for your father now then the Carer's Premium would end.

If your mother received DLA care and your wife was claiming CA for your father then it should make no difference to their benefits accept that your mother would get the money for the DLA care.

I have misled you - sorry - because I had forgotten that you were all living at the property and therefore they would not be eligible for the severe disability premium.

SDP would have been payable if they were both entitled to the correct DLA/AA, no one claimed CA for them and they had no non dependants living with them.

So if your mother has been claiming CA whilst not meeting the criteria, presumably she'll have to pay it back
