Speed cameras - under test
Newly installed average speed cameras signed - "Cameras Under Test".
Are these cameras capable of being used for enforcement purposes are they strictly what is displayed on the attached signs?
Many drivers are passing through them at well over the restricted limit.

As long as you are not then don't worry, in Birmingham all the gatso's were supposed to be switched off last year, however there was a news article of a guy who got caught 3 times in different parts of the region.0

No reason why they can't be used.
It might seem "unsporting", but it's not a game ...0 -
think they do play games with these cameras-down the a13 doing roadworks average speed cameras apparently in use-first time id went through them and didnt spot the 40 sign thought it was 50 and no ticketWhat goes around-comes around0

They are not allowed to enforce speeding from a camera "under test". However, a favourite trick is to have the first one "under test" or "not in use" and the next four or five live.
Usually the cameras are erected ready to enforce a temporary limit through impending roadworks and will continue to be "under test" or "not in use" until the road works begin.
The excuse for the caper in the opening paragraph is that the roadworks are in two phases. Keep your eyes peeled for speed limits and stick to them.0 -
A448 by any chance?
those ones have been under test for years and to my knowledge never used or anyone ticketed.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -
I'm on cruise control for the duration.
Just curious re their standing given they all appear to carry signage informing "under test" but the number of vehicles ignoring them is raising the question. This is a stretch of motorway that I'm on several times per day and the folks trotting on are pretty constant.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
