Couple of bank switching questions

I'm looking to open the Halifax account that pays £100 and £5 a month, currently I am with NatWest. Ideally, I want to keep my NatWest account (linked to kids savings account) and phase things over to the Halifax one.

I was wondering, can I open a new bank account with whoever and switch straight away? I could set up two small direct debits and transfer money over to cover the amounts needed. If I can, is there a certain account thats best for doing this?

I appreciate this will of been asked 100 times but I wanted to make fully clear I do it properly, never changed bank before :)

Thanks.

Yes you can... open a new account, request a debit card and switch it away. I have done this for a number of accounts

Thanks, do you know if this will be easier with a certain account? Or one that gives no switch bonuses?

And of any easy to set up direct debits? :)

I don't understand what you mean. Do you mean which bank is easier to open a "donor account" (i.e. the account you want to open just for the purpose of switching away) with?

Good question haha. I meant is a certain account better, eg no switching bonuses can set up direct debits easier online etc.

I've opted for Tesco anyway, going to switch to Halifax asap. Cheers.

You can set up direct debits easily to the tesco internet saver on your donor account and then switch
