Afternoon all
Been poorly with some virus (dunno what, but it involved a temperature, headache and various other aches and pains) but feel a bit better today.
Well done on the event yesterday BobIn lieu of Africa, perhaps you could manage a safari park visit with your son? It is probably the animals he wants to see
Take care Maria!
Congratulations on the house deposit Floella, I can totally understand your Mum wanting to help. I always help my children if I can, and continuing to be able to do so on what is now quite a low income is one of the reasons why I am frugal. My debts were paid off some years ago, I am now mortgage free, and like many other people I know, as I get older, I need / want less. I would rather declutter than spend money on new 'stuff' all the time, if that makes sense
Anyway, short list this weekend due to lurgy
So far:
Load of washing partly dried on line - it started to rain so I got it in. I cba to put it out again now, so will finish off on the airer tonight.
Managed to do a bit in the garden, pulled out the broad bean plants, picked off the last beans and cut up the stalks with my secateurs and added to the compost bins. Also dug out the garlic as its leaves had died down. The bulbs are quite small, but usable, and given it was grown from sprouty garlic from the larder that would otherwise have been thrown away, I am quite happy with it.
Cleaned a few silver plated items for my sales unit
Finished reading 2 books that have been hanging around for ages (free entertainment). I won't read them again, so they can go back to the charity shop tomorrow so that someone else can enjoy themI have got rid of hundreds of books this year, selling some and donating others. I can honestly say I haven't missed any of them. I still have a lot, and still buy the occasional one that I fancy (from second hand or charity shops) but think carefully whether I want to keep them after they have been read.
Still to do:
A bit of ironing
Any watering needed in the garden
Shopping delivery later
Cook something for supper
Not a very ambitious listHopefully my bug will have gone completely tomorrow and I will get more done!

Hi People
am really chuffed I have done all my list apart from mowed grass. It rained!
However, have planted £7 of seeds that I bought in sale yesterday and it will be an experiment. Will the chucks eat the stuff as it grows and is it therefore a waste? Masses of stuff, dwarf beans, broad beans, beetroot, turnips, etc etc. 10 packets. I had to hoe the patch before I started so I have cleaned up whether they get eaten or not.
Have also scrubbed out all the poultry feeders, sheds, preserved sheds, clean bedding, clean water, all ready for them for the night. Goose girl is still sitting on her 5 eggs. Should I be excited? Any day I may be a Goose Grandma? Or the proud owner of 5 rotten eggs? :rotfl: Am loving the suspense.
Am now showered and back in bed resting. But I have had the best physical work day since last summer and am hoping I will keep improving and able to enjoy the house and garden. Lying in bed is BORING.
Happy sunday night all. How gorgeous are those royal babies, might be in love, wonder if goose babies will be as sweet?0 -

Evening All
Sorry to hear you've been ill Dawn. Do you think it has now passed? Thank you for the good suggestion re the safari park. We have done them in the past but not for a while. Longleat is a favourite but Port Lympne in Kent is nearer. We have been to Howletts it's sister park but that is not a safari as such. Amazing gorillas there. Anyway food for thought definately. By the way I think you should ask MSE for your badges. You truly deserve the DF badge and the mortgage free as well. You earned your stripes you should wear them with pride. End of bossy bob moment
Little Pink Purse - how nice to see you posting again. I've often wondered how you were. It sounds like it's been a pig of a year for you so far. All I can say is we are pretty much half way through it. Maybe the latter half will be brilliant for you to make up?
Maria - Well done on your busy, productive day. Goose for Xmas lunch at your house?? We did it one year. Bought from a small independent shop that quoted us £40 but when we arrived to collect on Xmas eve proceeded to say it would actually be £80:eek: we stupidly paid it. That was before the sense kicked in. But it was delicious have to say.
Lilly - good luck cutting back to meet your new budget. Hope it helps posting here.
Well. Other DFW stuff this afternoon. Went out for a walk found 3p roadkill. Played in the park with the Nerf guns which was fun. Had some of the local kids joining in until their father started yelling at them as they all had new trainers on.....He seemed to have 4 kids all in brand new Nike trainers with Sports Direct bag strewn over the picnic table.
Got home to an email with my new Noddle report for the month. I didn't rate it much when we first stopped paying for Experian but actually it's quite useful. We have 4 out of a possible 5 as has been the case since we joined them. So that's good to know. Couldn't tell you the last time we have applied for credit though and we won't until we go for another mortgage eventually. I think so differently now than I used to when a high earner. Crazy logic really.
anyway just had roast chicken and loads of veggies for dinner and a bit of a chill out before I clean up and get the boy to bed.
Hope everyone is having a chilled evening.

Hi all
Been away for the weekend meeting up with family. We stayed on a lovely campsite and did our own catering so it was fairly frugal. It was funny because my sister turned up with this huge coolbox full of organic stuff from Waitr@se and there's me with my homemade stuff and L*dl bargains.
Anyhow a good time was had by all. Came home to the dreaded brown envelope from DWP and found out that DS1 has been awarded PIP after all, I must admit there were a few tears of relief. It gets us through the next 2 years and we can concentrate on supporting him and I can carry on working part time so I dont have to leave him on his own longer than necessary.
Ready for a careful week now, although the fridge does look a bit bare!0 -

Hi guys
Newbie here
I posted a couple of days ago to say that I've finally decided to go along the DFW path ... Bob suggested this thread might help with motivation and from what I've read so far you all seem a nice bunch ... So here I am (a bit late but better than never)
I'm Lisa and I live with my two 12 year old boys, they are the main reason I want to get DF ... I want to get to a good financial position and try to instill a sense of responsibility into the boys and teach them the value of things (pre divorce they did get a bit too easy).
Things I have done
Well today I have been to work (second job at which I manage a car boot sale and burger van) so any buns/burgers etc that were left are now cooked and frozen ready for dinners at a later date ...
I also needed to restock for the van so had to pop to farm foods the van stock was £45 so I added a couple of extra bits that I needed for myself and used a voucher for £5 off so in total cost me £2.70 for my bits (between these and the stuff from the van it should last the week)
I've also washed and put everything on aires instead of turning the dryer on.
I've also managed to use up the bits of veggies that were lurking in the cupboards/fridge for dinner ready for my new box of veggies my dad will bring over for me tomorrow ..
Again hiya everyone and hope you don't mind me joining in ... Any tips would be great too
