ESA or PIP

Hi,

I asked a question relating to an operation on my leg, my physical disabily has led to a mental breakdown and highlighted my underlying mental problems.
I want to go back to work, but I have also just been given the diagnosis of Dyspraxia with dyscalculia tenancies, and ADHD.

Would I apply for PIP or ESA?

I dont think I would be able to go back full time straight away, I am far too fragile (physcially and mentally atm) so which would be best?

    You can apply for both.

PIP can be claimed in or out of work and is for the help you need getting around or looking after yourself.

ESA is for those who can't work (broadly speaking - you can do some permitted work). There are two strands, the Support Group for those deemed unable to do any work, and the Work Related Activity Group which is for those who are assessed to be likely to be capable of some work in the near future.

PIP can be paid regardless of your financial situation. ESA depends on your National Insurance contributions over the last couple of years and on your household income (houshold being partner, not lodger or flat mate).
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
