Hello
I need some urgent advice
A friend bought me an ipad mini with wifi 3 years ago from Currys Pc world and he purchased the 3 year warranty/insurance. My ipad has been working fine until last weekend when I had to take it back to the store with the the receipt and insurance. The problem it just turned itself off and it wouldn't charge or turn back on when I pressed the buttom.
After fiddling about with it the staff at Currys manged to turn it back on. I wanted to find out why it turned itself off etc. The sales person wasn't knowledgeable and helpful at all, in fact he didn't know anything about the product. Just said it would be ok. So I am off to Apple tomorrow for them to look at it. It is working now however I am worried it may happen again.
My warranty runs out 15/8/2015. the insurance/warranty is not in my name as it was part of the gift. I am no longer in touch with the person who bought me the gift. I want to get the ipad serviced under the warranty. Currys are saying because the insurance/warranty is in someone else's name I cant get my ipad serviced to find out the fault. I need to get them to sign the warranty over to me. I don't see why I should pay Apple for the service/repair when I have the warranty from Currys.
How true is this what Curry's are saying, surely what would happen if the person was deadetc.
Advice on going forward please.
Thanks

Have you tried switching it on and off0

I don't know why, but this sometimes happens with Apple devices I have found but the simple fix is usually just to hold the sleep and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds and the apple logo appears. You don't loose any data when you do this. I have had an ipod for a few years now that I once had to do this with, no problems after DDs phone and ipad had similar and no further probs after. If you ever have any issues with the ipad just have a look on the Apple forums as they have a lot of helpful information I have found.0

But that's the point, you don't have the warranty.
Whoever made the original purchase is the person that has the warranty.
It can be transferred but it needs the original purchaser to contact Currys to arrange for this to be done.0 -
You can't service an iPad.
Holding down the home and power button for 10 seconds forces a hard reboot. This is standard to do when the device appears 'dead'0 -
Mine has done it maybe 4 or 5 times in the past 2 years. Home and power button fix has always worked. I have always put it down to a software quirk. You could reset the iPad to factory settings if that made you feel better?
There isn't really an iPad service that you can have, and the most they will do at a repair is set it back to factory settings, so I really wouldn't bother sending it off at all.0 -
Apple aren't going to service the iPad for a fault they can not verify/see.
If anything they will simply factory restore it then hand it back.
Apple will only replace (they don't repair iPads) if it has a verifiable hardware fault, what you have there sounds at best like a minor software glitch that currys have sorted.
Why imply that they're unknowledgeable simply because they could not explain what the problem was?
I'm sure the Apple Tech will not be able to tell you what the problem is either.... and if they do they're lying or guessing.

How do Currys know the warranty is not in your name? Surely they'll only know if you tell them.0 -

Maybe OP means the "whatever happens" warranty currys offer? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
